Red Bull KTM Factory Rider Toby Price currently sits 3rd overall in the 2019 Dakar Rally after Stage 6 of the Dakar Rally.

Stage 4 – 6th
Overall Position – 3rd

Price put in a great ride in the first 405km Marathon Stage from Arequipa to Moquegua to finish 3rd while nursing his injured wrist.

Despite a small crash in the latter half of the special, Price’s performance combined with a huge loss of time for the previous leader means that he has gone from over 15 minutes off the lead to 4:22s behind new frontrunner Ricky Brabec.

Price has now jumped from 5th to 3rd Overall.

That was tough today. It was a long stage and a lot of it was made up of rocky tracks and rivers, they are the worst for my wrist. I did have one get-off along the way but luckily not too bad. I’m not comfortable but it is the way it is and I have to work around it. The goal for the rest of the rally is to keep on doing what I’ve been doing and get the best result possible.”

Stage 5 – 8th
Overall Position – 4th

Price was able to maintain a solid pace in the second half of the Marathon Special, putting on an extremely brave performance to place 8th at the conclusion of the tough stage five.

Price has dropped a position in the overall standings into 4th but is now a minute closer to the leader and trailing by only 3:21s.

The Australian aggravated the injury to his wrist in the 265km special stage but had the chance to recuperate on the rest day.

It was a really, really tough day for me today. Starting in groups of 10 on the beach means that you not only have to fight for position with other riders, you have to keep an eye on your navigation while dodging the rocks and dust thrown up by the guys in front. My pace today was good but I cased out on one drop and that put a lot of strain through my wrist again. I was able to continue, but I am really thankful for the rest day now. I am happy to have reached the halfway stage of the rally so hopefully after a day off I will be ready to go again on Sunday.

Stage 6 – Position 4th
Overall Position – 3rd

Price finished 4th in Stage 6 between Arequipa to San Juan de Marcona despite fighting the aggravating wrist injury he is carrying with him.

Price is now the lead KTM rider in 3rd overall, 5:17s from the overall leader, and is in an ideal position to start Stage 7 tomorrow.

There are only 4 Stages remaining in the 2019 Dakar Rally.

It’s been a really tough day today. My wrist is hurting more and more as the race goes on and it’s making things uncomfortable out there. I’ll keep cruising on though and I’m still in the race, it’s just a bit more like survival mode at the moment. Nevertheless, third overall with four stages left to race is encouraging. The goal is the same – make it safely to the finish – so I’ll keep on pushing on tomorrow.”
