PRICE 2ND AT ATACAMA RALLY

Red Bull KTM Factory Rider Toby Price has finished 2nd at the Atacama Rally.

Following Price’s fastest time in Monday’s short Prologue stage, the Australian posted the third fastest time on the opening stage after choosing to set off as the 15th rider.

With the rally marking the first return to international competition for several months, Price decided to ride as smoothly as possible and finished 3rd for the Stage.

Riding an intelligent Stage Two the next day, Price posted the third fastest time on the longest stage of the event.

Price held his 3rd place position in Stage Three despite the tricking navigation where there was one waypoint, in particular, that was hard to find.

The Australian lost a little time overall but was pleased with his pace over the majority of the stage.

Price finished just 22 seconds down on leader and team-mate Walkner for Stage Four, advancing from 3rd to 2nd place overall, just three minutes from the lead.

The final 150km stage of the Atacama Rally covered much of the ground previously used in the earlier stages, and Price posted the second fastest time of the day, finishing 4.25 minutes from the leader.

Price was happy with the result and is looking forward to his next event in Argentina at the Desafío Ruta 40.

Price’s 2nd place finish has elevated him to 4th in the 2018 FIM Cross-Country Rallies Championship.

To finish 2nd after such a tricky race is good and sets me up well for Argentina. It was a good day today, it was always going to be tough to make up enough time to take the win, especially over such a short stage. Nevertheless, I’m happy with how the day and the whole rally has gone. I set out at the beginning of the event to ride consistently and get back up to speed with the bike and the navigation and I think I have managed that. Hopefully, I can deliver more of the same, stay fit and healthy and put in another good performance.

Price will now prepare for the next round of the World Championship, the Desafío Ruta 40 in Argentina to be held from 25th to 31st of August from San Miguel de Tucumán and to San Juan.
