PRICE RUNS AGONIZINGLY SHORT OF FINKE FINISH
Dakar Rally Champion Toby Price has fallen short of finishing the 2017 Finke Desert Race 80KM out from the finish, while running 2nd in the Extreme 2WD and 3rd Outright.
After finishing Saturday’s Prologue, Price began Day 1 on Sunday taking off from 7th in his Geiser Brothers built Trophy Truck.
The unforgiving Alice Springs track presented a dusty front, with Price unable to even see the trees ahead.
Price felt good and was able to finish the day safely, and was pleased with the truck running well and how it performed throughout the day.
Price began Day 2 in 5th, and had a 1.5 Minute Gap between himself and 4th place.
Price had a clear track ahead but the dust in front of him was again chaotic, and he ran high on a bank which resulted in a flat tyre.
In the midst of changing the tyre Price fell to 6th, but was able to pass some front-running Trophy Trucks and get into 3rd Outright and 2nd in class before breaking down.
The breakdown was diagnosed as an Engine Sensor Failure and Price was unable to finish the 2017 Finke Desert Race.
“FINKE DIDN’T GO QUITE AS PLANNED, BUT ALL IN ALL WITH THE AMOUNT OF TIME AND PREPARATION WE HAD TO GET OUT HERE I THINK WE DID EXCEPTIONALLY WELL. WE ENDED UP WITH AN ENGINE SENSOR FAILURE WITH 80KM TO GO TO THE FINISH AND DIDN’T MAKE THE FINISH LINE. IT’S A BIT OF BUMMER CONSIDERING ALL THE WORK ALL THE BOYS PUT IN BUT WERE ALL SAFE AND I THINK WE’VE ALL HAD A GOOD TIME. I CAN’T THANK ALL THE SPONSORS ENOUGH FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE. HOPEFULLY WE’LL BE BACK BIGGER AND BETTER NEXT YEAR.”
Price wants to thank all his sponsors for their support during the Finke Desert Race; Fulcrum Suspensions, Penrite Oils, BFGoodrich, Blundstone, DGI Trading, Lancaster Motor Group, Mitsubishi Motors Australia, Sharps Earthmoving, Comiskey Mining Services, Milwaukee Tools, Gearwrench, Macnaught, King Shocks, Geiser Brothers, Hendry’s Performance, Engines and CRG Designs.
