PRICE LOSES LEAD DURING STAGE 3 OF THE DAKAR RALLY

Toby Price lead out the 780km Stage 3 of the Dakar Rally in San Miguel De Tucuman, and completed the day in San Salvador De Jujuy in 9th after losing time searching for Check Points.

The new checkpoints served as a challenge for all riders in both car and bike categories, with experience meaning very little in the gruelling desert.

EVERYONE’S GETTING LOST AT THE MOMENT, CARS AND BIKES, WHEN YOU ARE ON THE BIKE IT’S HARDER TO FIND THE NEW CHECKPOINTS BECAUSE YOU ARE MAKING THE CALLS AND RIDING AT THE SAME TIME. IF THE CAR GUYS ARE ALL GETTING LOST AND HAVE BEING DOING IT FOR YEARS IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT, BUT THAT’S DAKAR THIS YEAR AND WE NEED TO GET OUR HEAD AROUND IT AND GET IT DONE.

Price now trailing the leader by 21 minutes and 51 seconds after running slightly left at the first waypoint set him back.

IT WAS A HARD STAGE THE FIRST 70KM WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND IF YOU DIDN’T HIT YOUR MARKS EXACTLY RIGHT AND GET ALL YOUR WAYPOINTS AT THE TIMES YOU NEEDED THEN YOUR ROAD BOOK GETS OUT OF WHACK AND YOU NEED TO TRY AND RECALIBRATE. I WENT A LITTLE TOO LEFT ON THE FIRST ONE AND COULDN’T QUITE FIND IT AND ENDED UP DOING ABOUT 12KM EXTRA THAN I NEEDED TO.

Price will ride over 521km from San Salvador De Jujuy to Tupiza tomorrow.

TODAY WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTING, IT’S ONLY DAY 3 BUT TO LOSE THE AMOUNT OF TIME WE DID IS DEFINITELY A BIT OF A HARD ONE TO TAKE. WE STILL HAVE ANOTHER FEW DAYS TO GO THIS WEEK AND CAN PUT A MOVE ON NEXT WEEK, SO IT’S DEFINITELY NOT OUT OF REACH AT THE MOMENT AND WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE WE DON’T MAKE THOSE SAME MISTAKES. JUST GOT TO PUT TODAY BEHIND US AND NOT DWELL ON IT AND LOOK FORWARD TO TOMORROW.
